Stockton, KS

By: Sheldon Wickwar

Ninety-nine race teams checked into the newly reconfigured 1/3 mile oval at the Rooks County Speedway for their second event of the season on Friday, July 3rd to kick off Independence Day Weekend! Mother Nature tried to force her hand but the track crew, racers and race fans waited the storm out, and the racing action was excellent as the top and bottom grooves both came to life, giving racers plenty of room to maneuver. Visiting victory lane was Andrew Burg in the hobby stock, Tathan Burkhart in the stock car, Jacob Olmstead in the sport mod, Trent Peltier in the crown vic, Kyle Mortensen in the sport compact and Dakota Sproul in the modified!

Peltier Back-To-Back In Crown Vic Action!

Trent Peltier won the only heat race for the crown vic class, he started the feature on the outside of the front row along with Matt Ramsey. Ramsey got the early lead as Peltier slipped back and spun out in three and four around halfway in the feature. The race was restarted and Peltier made a strong charge through the field including a late race pass to secure the win. Trent Peltier picked up his second win of the season, both coming in Stockton, second was Stockton's own Colton Pfeifer, third was Brookville's Squirt Betzner, fourth was Salina's Alex Manwaring and fifth was Dorrance's Shaun Woods in his awesome limousine. Colton Pfeifer, Squirt Betzner and Shaun Woods all gained two spots each.

Olmstead Captures Sport Mod Glory!

Tracy Holloway and Jacob Olmstead both picked up sport mod heat races on Friday night. Their feature event started with a front row of Sterling Judy and Cody Williams. A three wide battle broke out immediately as Jacob Olmstead wasted no time finding his way to the lead position, while Sterling Judy and Cody Williams battled for second side-by-side. On lap five a caution came out for Hayden Howard spinning out of turn four. Olmstead brought the field back to life after the restart, Tyler Watts made a huge run off the restart to immediately get from sixth place to third place. Watts would then enter a heavily contested battle for second place with Cody Williams throughout the remainder of the event, however Jacob Olmstead was sailing away with the race lead. Jacob Olmstead stormed away to grab his sixth feature win of the season in ten starts. Second was Tyler Watts, third was Austin Carter who charged through the field late, fourth was Cody Williams and fifth was young gun Trevin Frye. Hard charger in the event was Derek Murphy who gained nine spots, other nice runs included Hayden Howard up seven spots after his early spin, Austin Carter up six spots, and Dylan Brozek and Kam Gruber both grabbed five spots each!

Mortensen Strong in Compact Action!

Gage Porter and Kyle Mortensen picked up sport compact heat race wins, the feature started with a front row of Madison Reed and Nathan Vollbracht. Reed got the early jump on the field, while the rest of the field quickly came to life as Kyle Mortensen and Dan Kruse kicked it three wide, a caution would fly as Kruse and Kaishen Brack spun down the frontstretch. Reed led the field to a restart and quickly tried to pull away from the field. Mortensen headed to the top and found some momentum after a couple of laps, while battling for second with Porter. Lap four saw Mortensen and Porter split Reed three wide, with Mortensen taking control of the race lead. A lap later saw youngster Jacob Kappel make moves past Reed and Porter. The father/son duo of Dave and Jacob Kappel would make strong moves throughout the feature but ultimately ran out of time to catch Mortensen. Kyle Mortensen picked up his first win of 2026 in limited action, second went to Jacob Kappel, third went to Gage Porter, fourth was Dave Kappel and Madison Reed rounded out the top-five. Hard charger in the feature was Jacob Kappel who gained eight spots, other nice runs included Dave Kappel up five spots, Kyle Mortensen up four spots and Gage Porter up three spots!

Burkhart Brings Old Glory to Stock Car Victory Lane!

Garrett Hager and Doug Holzmeister picked up stock car heat race wins, the feature started with the duo on the front row, Hager got the nice run to start the race and pulled away from Holzmeister right away, Holzmeister slid back as Troy Burkhart and Tyler Watts got by. Meanwhile Tathan Burkhart in a salute to America special 250 wrap was flying through the field. Caution came out a few laps in for a three car incident in turns three and four. Hager restarted the field, and quickly caution came out as a pileup occured in one and two after Holzmeister got sideways on the bottom groove, collecting Bobby Eubanks, Don Dodds, and Cody Ghumm. Hager tried to restart the field again, and would hold a lead. Meanwhile, Tathan Burkhart was forcing the field three wide as he tried to get to the top three. With fifteen laps to go Troy Burkhart started battling side-by-side with Hager, and a lap later secured the lead. Hager and Watts would run side-by-side and that gave Tathan Burkhart the top line and he rocketed to the second spot. Tathan started running down his father around halfway. With five laps left, Tathan would take the lead away from Troy and never look back. Tathan Burkhart took his beautiful 250 America's birthday car to victory lane, his third feature win of the year, second was Garrett Hager, third was Troy Burkhart, fourth was Tim Watts and fifth was Jason Rogers. Hard charger in the event was Cole Younger who gained eight spots, other nice runs included Jason Rogers, Jason Dove, and Ron Duffy all up six spots each!

Burg Strong in Hobby Action!

Nick Sherfick, Carson Hageman, and Nick Ronnebaum all picked up hobby stock heat race wins, while Morgan Olmstead won the b-main. The feature event started with a front row of Brandon Wise and Kasen Zorn. Chaos ensued right away as on the opening lap as Brandon Wise got loose down the frontstretch collecting several cars. That ended the night for Nick Ronnebaum, Brandon Wise, and Zach Olmstead. Bingston Rogers, Ted Trumbo, Trey Collins, Morgan Olmstead and Brett Conness were able to race on. The field restarted after the pileup, and Jeromy Wagner grabbed the race lead, with Andrew Burg tailing. Caution came out as Zorn, and Rogers tangled. Wagner brought the field back to another restart, and Burg would storm by on to take the race lead over. Trent Matson started moving through the field while James Love broke down the backstretch. Burg restarted the field and quickly Matson got by Wagner to take over second place. Burg and the field were finally able to click off laps, Matson just did not have enough to get around Burg, was able to get right to the bumper but did not want to move him to pass him. Andrew Burg picked up his second win of the season, a special win Friday night as he got to celebrate in victory lane with his soon to be son in law Tathan Burkhart. Second went to Trent Matson, third was Trey Collins who rebounded from the opening lap pileup, fourth was Jeromy Wagner, and fifth was Dane Headrick.
