The Rooks County Free Fair held their annual two nights of IMCA racing last Thursday and Friday. Picking up feature wins on Thursday were Zach Olmstead in the hobby stock, Daniel Gottschalk in the modified, Gage Porter in the sport compact, David Murray Jr in the stock car, Chad Dolan in the sport mod and Trent Peltier in the crown vic class!
Friday night featured added money for all of the classes, along with being all star qualifier shows for the modifieds and stock cars. The hobby stock race was also the 6th annual Terry Goscha Memorial race, Terry was a long time flagman and racing supporter in western Kansas. His wife Gloria is still an active hand scorer for Rooks County Speedway, and their son Micah is the flagman at several tracks including Rooks County, RPM in Hays, and Dodge City Raceway Park. Zach Olmstead picked up the hobby stock race victory, Eddie Belec won a thrilling modified battle, Gage Porter won the sport compact show, Nolan Remus won the crown vic class, and the Watts family out of Beloit, capped off a great night as a rare father/son duo to pick up feature wins in two classes, Tim won the stocks and Tyler won a thrilling sport mod battle!
The stock cars started the show on Friday night, they ran three heat races won by Kyle Pfeifer, Tim Watts and Troy Burkhart. Their twenty-five lap main event featured a front row of Tim Watts and Eric Cross. The initial start was waved off as Trevor Schmidt went for a spin in three and four, Watts and Cross had been drag racing side by side. On the second attempt for the start Watts was able to lunge out to the early lead. Cody Williams and Kyle Clough battled throughout the opening laps, with Williams gaining third place on lap three. Caution came out on lap four for Kyle Clough sailing off the top of three and four, Watts would bring the field to a restart. Caution immediately came out as Jason Dove spun, collecting Trevor Schmidt, Brendyn Nordyke, and Dylan Bell. Watts restarted the field and they struggled again to get going, the field finally got some rhythm going after their fifth caution, Watts held command the entirety of the event, holding off charges from Kyle Pfeifer and Eric Cross. Tim Watts grabbed his second win of the season, his first coming at Salina on July 11th. Second went to Kyle Pfeifer, third to Eric Cross, fourth to Troy Burkhart, and fifth to Dylan Bell. Hard charger in the event was Dylan Bell who gained twelve spots, Kyle Pfeifer gained seven spots, while the Burkhart father/son duo gained six spots each.

The hobby stocks ran second on the program, they ran two heat races won by Trent Matson and Dane Headrick. Their twenty-five lap feature event started with a front row of Colton Boxum and Bingston Rogers, however Boxum elected to start last as he wanted to compete for an additional $250 if he won from the back. The front row that rolled to the green flag was Ted Trumbo, and Rogers. Trumbo got the early lead, but quickly Trent Matson was hunting for the lead. Matson led the opening lap at the line, meanwhile Dane Headrick and Zach Olmstead were cruising to the front. Lap three saw Boxum get involved in a wreck along with Dustin Reily ending his night. Lap four saw some chaos as Andrew Burg tried to pass Olmstead on the bottom and ran it in too hard and spun in front of the rest of the field. Matson restarted the field but immediately Olmstead was all over him for the race lead. Matson started missing the bottom a few laps in a row and that was just what Olmstead needed to get by. Olmstead got by and went on to pick up back to back wins in consecutive nights in Stockton, and another pair of fair race victories at Rooks County! Olmstead picked up wins eleven and twelve on the season. Second went to Dane Headrick, third Trent Matson, fourth Nick Sherfick and fifth Andrew Burg. Hard charger in the event was Justin Meserve who gained seven spots, Anna Minks gained six spots, while Brian Riley, Wade Kolbo and Zach Olmstead all gained five spots each!

The sport mods were third on the program, they ran two heat races won by Cody Williams and Chad Dolan, their twenty-lap main event started with a front row of Jasen Gray and Josiah Lopez. Gray got the early lead and led lap one, Lopez challenged on lap two but did not have enough momentum to get by. Meanwhile, Tracy Holloway and Tyler Watts were moving through the field. Holloway took control of second place on lap six. Watts at the time was still stuck in eighth place. Holloway challenged for the race lead on laps seven and eight, as he ran side-by-side with Gray. Holloway led lap eight, while Watts was still looking from outside the top-five. A debris caution late in the race, changed the race as Tyler Watts launched from fifth place to third place in a lap. Watts got to second on lap fifteen, with faster lap times, quickly put pressure on Holloway. A Sam McCune spin ended a side-by-side battle for the race lead. Watts chose the top on the restart, behind leader Holloway, and got side-by-side. The duo was side by side coming to the white flag, and Watts got control down the backstretch and moved to the lower groove. Tyler Watts grabbed his fifth win of the season, second went to Tracy Holloway, third was Cody Williams, fourth Chad Dolan and fifth was Dylan Cherry. Hard charger was Tyler Watts who gained eight spots!

The modified all star qualifier ran fourth on the program, they ran three heat races won by Cale Lagroon, Brandon Clough, and Eddie Belec. Corey Lagroon and Tanner Clough brought the twenty-two car field to the start of their twenty-five lap event. Lagroon got the early lead and started to pull away from Clough and Calhoon. Meanwhile, Eddie Belec, Steffens, Money and Tanner Black were all trying to move through the field after starting at the back of the pack. Steffens found the moisture up top after a few laps and started flying to the front, bringing Belec with him. Steffens and Belec went from battling for sixth to the race lead in a lap or two once they found the top side. Steffens led for a majority of the event, and Belec used his veteran experience to complete a late race pass for the lead. Eddie Belec picked up his third win of the season, this was his first weekend attempting the Rooks County Speedway. Second went to Tanner Black, third was Clay Money, fourth was Ayden Steffens and fifth went to Brandon Clough. Hard charger in the event was Daniel Gottschalk who gained fourteen spots! Dalton Bell gained eight spots, while the top trio all gained five spots each.

The crown vic class ran fifth on the program, with a heat race won by Devin Princ, their twelve-lap main event started with a front row of Devin Princ and Camryn Pelster. Nolan Remus won from the third starting position, while Camryn Pelster finished second where he started, third was Thursday night's winner Trent Peltier, fourth was Austin Mortimer, and fifth was Matthew Mortimer.
The sport compacts ran last on the program, they ran one heat race won by Gage Porter, their fifteen-lap main event started with Stockton's Madison Reed on the pole, and Kiowa Higdon on the outside. Reed and Higdon ran side by side right away, with Porter all over them. Porter gained second on lap two, while Mortensen battled Reed for third on lap three. Lap six saw Gage Porter take the race lead away from Higdon. Mortensen got the third spot secured on lap seven. Gage Porter was untouched in the final five laps to pick up the win, his second win of the season, both coming during the fair races. Second was Kyle Mortensen, third was Dan Kruse, fourth was Kiowa Higdon and fifth was Madison Reed. Hard chargers in the event were Kyle Mortensen and Gage Porter who gained three spots each.
