WaKeeney Speedway
WaKeeney, Kansas
Eighty-one race teams checked into the historic WaKeeney Speedway for the May Madness show on Friday Night, along with IMCA Racesaver Sprint Cars flying under the United Rebel Sprint Series banner. Visiting victory lane were Trent Matson who picked up his first win with Getaway Motorsports in the hobby stocks, Garrett Hager in the stock car, Dakota Sproul in the modified and Steven Richardson in the sprint car!
The stock cars opened the night out, they ran two heat races won by Troy Burkhart and Garrett Hager, their twenty-lap main event featured a front row of Kyle Pfeifer and John Foley, the field had to work through a few cautions and a couple pileups that mainly resulted in sheet metal damage. Throughout the chaos Garret Hager moved to the front after starting eighth and held off charges from Kyle Pfeifer and Troy Burkhart. Garrett Hager picked up his first win of the season, in his season debut! Second went to Kyle Pfeifer, third was Troy Burkhart, fourth was Jayce Reimer and fifth was John Foley. Hard charger in the event was Reimer who gained eight spots, other nice runs included Hager up seven spots and Keith Stegman up five spots.

The United Rebel Sprint Series ran second on the program, they ran three heat races won by Jordan Knight, Tyler Knight and Zach Blurton. Their main event started with a front row of Jordan Knight and Steven Richardson, Richardson quickly made his way to the lead after an early battle with Knight, they pulled away from the field. Further back in the field, Zach Blurton and Jeremy Huish started making gains, in fact Huish went for a spin and had to come back from the back of the field and charged back to the top five. Blurton and Huish put on a thrilling side-by-side battle throughout the event. Ryan Rader and Jack Hall made big gains throughout the event as well. Steven Richardson however would not be tamed, as he picked up the feature win, his first win of the season. Second went to Jordan Knight, Jeremy Huish third, Zach Blurton fourth and Taylor Velasquez fifth. Hard chargers in the event were Ryan Rader and Jack Hall who both gained twelve spots each, Rader from nineteenth to seventh, and Hall twenty-fourth to twelfth. Other nice runs included Zak Moore up eight spots, Kye Ricke, Brian Herbert, Johnny Boos, and Jeremy up four spots each.

The modifieds ran third on the program, they ran two heat races won by Wakeeney's Kyle Rohleder, and Hays's Dakota Sproul. Their twenty-lap main event featured a front row of Dewain Coleman, and Troy Douglas however, third place starter Daniel Gottschalk, and fifth place starter Dylan Sherfick stormed the castle early on. The duo battled closely and allowed Sproul to creep into the lead battle after starting eighth place. Sherfick would lead the first half of the race, and then Sproul would start applying more pressure in the second half and eventually take the lead over. Sproul went on to win his fourth race of the year, in six showings. Second went to Dylan Sherfick, third was Daniel Gottschalk, fourth was Clay Money and Eddie Belec finished fifth. Hard charger in the event was Danny Keller who gained eight spots, other nice runs included Sproul who grabbed seven spots, class rookie Carson Lang gained six spots, while Clay Money, Eddie Belec and Paxton Dody all gained five spots each.

The hobby stocks finished the program, they ran three heat races where Dillon Thompson, Trent Matson and James Phelps all won. Mitchell Fischer won the b-main that provided the final eight starters in the feature event. The main event started with a front row of James Love and Dillon Thompson, quickly Thompson found his way to the lead, while heavy hitter Morgan Olmstead found himself in third place, and the newest member of Getaway Motorsports Trent Matson got to second place and entered a fierce duel for the lead with Thompson. A caution for a Bret Conness spin after contact from James Phelp that collected an innocent Ethan Fabrizius did not slow the leaders down. As Thompson and Matson kept their duel up, Matson eventually found his way around Thompson who had trouble late in the feature, and Matson found his way to victory lane for his fifth career win, and his first with Getaway Motorsports. Matson then followed it up Saturday in Dodge City with his second win of the season! Second went to Morgan Olmstead, third was Wade Kolbo who had a great run, fourth was Mitchell Fischer and Dillon Thompson fell back to finish in fifth. Hard charger in the event was Mitchell Fischer who gained nine spots, after having to go through the b-main. Other nice runs included Wade Kolbo up eight spots, Trent Matson up seven spots, while Ted Trumbo, Sonny Ohair, Casen Zorn, and Regan Sellard all gained five spots each.
