Sproul Caps Off Perfect Season in WaKeeney!

WaKeeney Speedway wrapped up their 2026 regular season on Saturday, September 19th with a night of local IMCA action along with a cruisers class. The weather was amazing for a September, Saturday Night and the racers put on an excellent show! Visiting victory lane as feature winners were Chris Lohrey in the cruiser, Kyle Pfeifer in the stock car, Dillon Richards in the hobby stock, Dakota Sproul in the modified, Josh Barnhart in the sport mod and Connor Schwien in the sport compact! Claiming track titles were Chris Lohrey in the cruisers, Kyle Pfeifer in the stock car, Dillon Thompson in the hobby stock, Dakota Sproul in the modified, Josh Barnhart in the sport mod, and Connor Schwien in the sport compact! Dakota Sproul capped off a perfect season at WaKeeney as he won all five modified features the track hosted!
Lohrey Grabs Cruiser Win and Title!
Chris Lohrey and Dakota Bliss both earned cruiser heat race wins, their twelve lap feature started with a front row of Kaleb Pavlu and Travis Phillips. Pavlu got the early lead, as quickly a five wide battle for second place ensued. Pavlu found his way to the lead on lap one. Pavlu started to pull away as the rest of the field battled tightly for second. The field battled a few cautions that allowed Chris Lohrey to creep towards the front of the field. Lohrey survived a chaotic feature to pick up his fifth win of the season, and second at WaKeeney. Second went to David Kraus, third was Dylan Pfeifer, fourth was Spankey Mcgaughey and fifth was Travis Phillips!

Pfeifer Bests Stock Car Field!
Bobby Eubanks and Kyle Pfeifer both earned stock car heat race wins, their fifteen-lap main event started with a front row of Ben Bogle, and Tyler Heath. Bogle grabbed the early race lead, meanwhile a three wide battle broke out for third place. Bogle ran away with the lead for a couple laps as everyone battled for second place. Caution came out on lap two as Jason Dove went for a spin down the backstretch. The stock cars had a bit of attrition throughout their feature but when they could run green flag, they put on some great racing action. Tyler Heath got control of second place for a few laps, before Pfeifer got control. Kyle Pfeifer took the race lead away from Bogle a few laps before halfway. Meanwhile, Jacob Slough and Ben Bogle were locked into a close battle for second place. Kyle Pfeifer went on to grab his first win of the season, second went to Jacob Slough, third was Ben Bogle, fourth was Jravin Suck, and fifth was Tyler Heath! Hard charger in the event was Kyle Pfeifer who gained nine spots!
Kyle Pfeifer won the track title by forty-four points over Johnny Yutterman, third was Quinton Yutterman, fourth was Tathan Burkhart and fifth was Doug Holzmeister!
Thompson Grabs Thrilling Hobby Feature!
Dillon Thompson, Eric Chab, and Dillon Richards won the three hobby stock heat races. Their twenty-lap main event started with a front row of Nick Sherfick and Dillon Richards. Richards gained the lead down the backstretch over the young Sherfick. The trio of Trent Matson, Drew Barry and Dillon Thompson all battled tightly for third place, while Trace Lobdell spun out of turn two. Richards held the lead off the restart but was quickly pressured by Thompson for the race lead. Trent Matson threw a slider a couple laps later to grab third place. Matson had enough momentum to gain second place towards the end of the race, and started exchanging sliders in the closing laps with Dillon Richards for the race lead, but Richards prevailed by 0.061 seconds! Dillon Richards grabbed his seventh win of the season, second went to Trent Matson, third to Dillon Thompson, fourth to Drew Barry and fifth to Dane Headrick. Hard charger was Levi Lippelmann who gained eight spots, Mitchell Fischer gained seven spots, and Justin Meserve gained five spots!
Dillon Thompson claimed the track title by eleven points over Mitchell Fischer, third was James Phelps, fourth was Trent Matson and fifth was James Love!
Barnhart Grabs Another Sport Mod Win!
Blaine Walt, Dylan Jacobson and Nick Hankins won the three sport mod heat races. Their twenty-lap main event started with a front row of Dylan Jacobson and Josiah Lopez. Caution immediately came out as Josiah Lopez went for a spin down the backstretch. A original restart was attempted, minus J-Lo, Hankins shot to the early race lead, meanwhile, Brandon Spanjer and Blaine Walt were moving through the field. Jacobson fell into a side by side battle with Walt for second, with Jacobson pulling away after a couple laps. Within five laps Josh Barnhart was up to fourth, he got a caution he was hoping for, and used the restart to sail to second place within a couple laps of the restart. Hankins held a healthy lead, but once Barnhart got to second place he used the mainly clean air to run Hankins down. A restart just before halfway allowed Barnhart to shoot to the lead, once in fully clean air, Barnhart ran away to claim his eighth win of the season, and third at WaKeeney. Second was Nick Hankins, third was Brandon Spanjer, fourth was Blaine Walt and Dylan Jacobson rounded out the top five! Hard chargers were Josh Barnhart, Zane Woodman and Justin Lampe who all gained nine spots each! Other nice runs included Blaine Hickel up seven spots and Ryan Kirchoff up six spots!
Josh Barnhart won the track title by twelve points over Blaine Walt, third was Dylan Jacobson, fourth was Ryan Kirchoff, and fifth was Cody Gearhart!
Sproul Remains Perfect in WaKeeney Mod Action!
Kyle Rohleder and Dakota Sproul picked up the two heat race wins for the modifieds, their fifteen-lap main event started with a front row of Dalton Bell and Dewain Coleman. Lap one was exciting as Sproul pushed the issue three wide for the race lead, and Rohleder followed in tow. Lap two saw Sproul sail to the race lead, a place he was very familiar with in WaKeeney. Sherfick and Lagroon made moves to gain top-five positions throughout the feature, but there was no slowing down Sproul. Rohleder got within a car length a few times, but ultimately Sproul was able to run away. Dakota Sproul picked up his eleventh win on the season, completing a season sweep of five wins in WaKeeney! Second went to Kyle Rohleder, third to Dylan Sherfick, fourth was Daniel Gottschalk and Corey Lagroon finished fifth! Hard chargers in the event were Rohleder, Sherfick and Lagroon who gained five spots each!
Dakota Sproul won the track title by ten points over Daniel Gottschalk, third was Dylan Sherfick, fourth was Clay Money and fifth was Kyle Rohleder!
Schwien Grabs Compact Win!
The compacts ran one heat on the night won by "Brisket" Kaishen Brack, their twelve lap main event started with a front row of Kaishen Brack and Grant Logue. Brack held the early lead, and led lap one, meanwhile the Schwien brothers and Kiowa Higdon were flying to the front. Connor Schwien got to second by lap two and quickly started applying pressure for the race lead. Lap three saw Schwien show his nose on the bottom, and on lap five was able to complete a pass for the lead down the backstretch. Lap six saw Brack battle back for the lead, but he lost some momentum and that allowed Jakob Schwien to close in for the second place battle. Meanwhile, Connor Schwien ran away with the win, his third on the season, with his other two coming at the RPM Speedway in Hays! Second went to Kaishen Brack, third went to Jakob Schwien, fourth was Kiowa Higdon and fifth was Gage Porter. Hard chargers in the feature were brothers Connor and Jakob Schwien who grabbed three spots each!
Connor Schwien won the track title by three points over Kaishen Brack, third was Kiowa Higdon, fourth was Gage Porter and fifth was Kyle Mortensen.
